frankenstein's meme #6
Monday, 7 October 2024 20:23yes, I did skip day 5 because for one, my answer is obvious (every day I wish tbz had a bigger fandom... they deserve it so much...) but also because election results gave me a headache last night lol it's been a decade of losing what little sanity I have over the deterioration of politics here, I'm exhausted.
anyway! day 6!!! not the band.
6. What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? What fandom was it? Not necessarily your oldest fandom, but a fandom that you started and still continue to read/write/create content for in some way.
these fandom questions are making me realize I've never fandom hopped all that much to begin with, and even when I have multiple fandoms, I'm not necessarily active in all of them. so it's hard to gauge which one is the oldest one, or what metrics to use...
for instance, my oldest current fandom might be mamamoo, as I've been a fan since 2014. and while I've written a handful of fics for them in idk 2016 and sometimes will try my hand at a drabble, I rarely engage with the fandom at large. same with critical role that I've been watching since 2017 (I think? I got there during the last few months of the vox machina campaign iirc), but I'm just following the fandom from the sidelines, I don't create anything nor am I in the habit of reading fic/meta/discussions for it either. they have the MOST gorgeous fanart ever though, it's the most fun fandom to follow in that sense!
with scripted things that's even more evident because I'm usually pretty canon-driven, anyway. and considering I've always been a little too socially anxious and a little too averse to fandom drama, my m.o is to stay in my lane and not venture out much. killing eve and yellowjackets are two of my favorite shows of all time, for example, but my fandom experience boils down to reblogging gifsets on tumblr lol I'm treading carefully in the iwtv fandom too. I don't think I have what it takes to engage properly with TV show fandoms, sorry.
so! to sum it up, I've been more active in the tbz, oneus, and (to a lesser extent) gidle fandoms for the last 5~4 years, and honestly, I'm having a blast. my favorite fandom experience to date <3
