concert VCRs, my beloveds

the zen II performances have been on my mind for 3 days straight now, so let me change course for a second to mention the random VCR shippy thoughts I had before I forget about it and find yet another "bite back" fancam.

I've been in the mood for sangnyu for weeks (months?) now but I don't think I know how to write them, so... sangnyu enjoyers of the world... spare some thousand words of sangnyu fic, please 😭🤲 I've been craving canon compliant sangnyu but after the concert, honestly, I'd welcome some angsty fantasy too because BEHOLD the prettiest shots from the concert VCRs:






is this not 31k words of an angsty fantasy au waiting to happen?!

also whatever jumilkyu got going on here, good for them! jumil is a yes from me, jukyu not really, milkyu can be fun, but jumilkyu I hadn't considered yet... this VCR in particular reminded me so much of this fic that for a second I was like, you're telling me this is NOT a reference to be aware era?!






I personally really liked the whole 11 black spheres motif from the beginning of the concert because after that the VCRs seemed to hone in on the irises of their eyes? or maybe I just had that impression lol but it felt like it could've been a whole concept if the concert had this kind of thing, but I guess this one was a little less concept-y than zen I. anyway, food for thought!!! (that I'm not gonna cook because this kitchen is understaffed, all the braincells are on vacay.)

oooh i don't think i know how to write them either, but the vibes are totally there! the fire and sparks make me think of dragons or a phoenix or something. jumilkyu are definitely making me feel an emotion here too

oh my god, wait, dragons are actually PERFECT... I can see it, the dragon rider/tamer/keeper vibes are there 👀 now I'll be thinking about it until someone takes pity on us and writes the au LOL

Any ship mentioning sangyeon and my ears perk up 👀 pop and I cowrote sangnyu a while back but every time I post a fic I'm immediately like "well my characterization was terrible, how would I write it better next time" 🤣 I think what I've noticed about them recently is that Chanhee really respects Sangyeon's vocals and talked to him a lot before Lee Muijin service guesting... Like he's really been giving me a 'heart eyes' feeling towards Sangyeon. Those are just my initial sangnyu thoughts... I have no idea how that would become an angsty fantasy au but I'm listening 👂

EXAAACTLY!!! oh you see the vision, that's what got me in the mood to read sangnyu T_T particularly that thing he shared about how he would lie down on the floor while sangyeon was practicing for the musical just to listen to his singing... and with lee mujin service too, chanhee has been so appreciative and supportive lately :') main vocals romance!

I have no idea how that would work in a fantasy AU tho. greetingsfrommaars mentioned dragons and that could be FUN, but it would need some worldbuilding... and so far my pea-sized brain has just come up with "reveal catching fire stage BUT WITH DRAGONS!!" lol

and wait, what was the sangnyu you wrote with popliar? 👀 was it the choose your own husband one? I haven't read that one but I love your characterization so maybe I should 👀

Yes there is sangnyu in choose your own husband! but we focused more on them in this one.

well thank you for reminding me of reveal catching fire because sangyeon in chains ❤️‍🔥 after watching that + you saying dragons, these are my thoughts:

there is a political uprising in the kingdom that deposes Changmin/his family. chanhee, his closest friend/advisor, escapes and is now trying to free him. chanhee turns to sangyeon, the best underground dragon rider who is currently thrown in some prison cell after the dragon fighting ring gets busted (maybe it's only legal for govt officials to ride dragons/or fighting with dragons is illegal lol). sangyeon is wary of chanhee, who stands for everything he is against (chanhee is/was a govt official so he could legally ride dragons lol) and chanhee is too shy to prove sangyeon otherwise, so sangyeon thinks he's cold. insert much dragon riding together where chanhee gushes over sangyeon's prowess, growing trust between them, some scare or near-miss that makes sangyeon and chanhee realize their feelings for each other are more than they thought, and you've got yourself a fic 😂 (I have no idea what happens to changmin after they free him or how this relates to juyeon being revealed as the 'true king' at the end of catching fire hahaha)

I'm sorry it took me a while to get back to this, august was tiring enough for me to keep pushing dreamwidth back to the list of priorities because my tiny brain can only compute so much :') the funny thing is that I've been thinking about DRAGON RIDER SANGYEON for weeks now, ever since I got the email for this...

I love the idea of changmin's family being deposed and chanhee being an advisor because that's 100% my interpretation of the stage, plus sangyeon in chains because YES. exactly!!! I have an old (so old) draft where the whole "juyeon is the true king" thing would play out as him being changmin's grieving partner who joins the revolution because he wants revenge, then ends up as the one who deals the final blow/wins the final fight. so maybe juyeon is just the face of the movement that wants the old family back? maybe someone with power/influence but who can't do much on his own... and chanhee knows him/is close to him (98z subplot?), which makes sangyeon MORE wary of him lol

AND!!! the thing about the dragon fighting rings - I have nothing to back me up on this because I barely ever consume anything with dragons but the lore I keep thinking about is like... dragons *need* to be active/have an outlet. that's in their nature, the violence is a part of it, but the government keeps their dragons in chains and separated because they see them as a means to an end (i.e. transportation/guard dogs). so while the fighting rings are entertainment for humans yeah they're also ironically more humane than what the govt does? by the end whether changmin's family returns to power or not, I'd imagine chanhee would be either giving up on everything to live on this side of things with sangyeon OR he'd be the one advocating for change in the dragon laws + getting sangyeon a job??? maybe?? because I'm assuming sangyeon would know a lot about dragons to begin with.

but regardless of everything else I NEED THEM RIDING A DRAGON TOGETHER T___T just thinking about a near-miss scene where one of them comes close to dying and there's a frantic HOLD MY HAND or just a distressed yelling of each other's name please the dramatiqué fantasy au of my dreams... just thinking about a near-miss scene where one of them comes close to dying and there's a frantic HOLD MY HAND or just a distressed yelling of each other's name please the dramatiqué fantasy au of my dreams... yessssss listen sangyeon would be soooo tender in a near miss moment....imagine if chanhee got hurt and said 'oh it's nothing' and sangyeon said let me see and held chanhee's hand to patch him up...that's the good stuff

SANGNYU EVEN WENT ON A (FAKE) DATE WHILE WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT IT!! even they want more sangnyu fic (source: the voices in my head) oh trust me i have been contemplating this date soooooo much and will hopefully end up writing a little something for it.....but i think you should write sangnyu hehe

I've been hakoweening too hard to think sangnyu thoughts right now but just wanted to say I'm still laughing about this... brb coming up with the name of a country/political party/coat of arms motto with the IST initials...

I hope you really end up writing a little something for them though, I'd love to read it 👀 I'll try to convince myself to give it a try too at some point, I've tried and failed before but maybe!! one day!!! it works out :') LOL

Maybe the <5k fic you meant to write for Hakoween is actually supposed to be a sangnyu fic.... <3 I thought about writing the sangnyu date for Christmassy but idk if I can make it 'cozy' enough so I will probably go with something else.

you're spot on actually LOL because I tried writing sangnyu for the comment fest 😭 and that was definitely gonna be short!! the doc still exists on my google drive so fingers crossed...

and omg ofc you got sangyeon for christmassy, I'm looking forward to your fic even if it's not sangny. but I mean, if it IS, I'm sending you good cozy vibes to help 👀
