📺 "climax" (2026)
breaking news: I'm actually watching a kdrama! on my phone, which is not ideal, but it's what's working for me because the whole ordeal of having to set up the computer to watch things is so bothersome, I end up not watching anything...
since I follow a kdrama updates account (just out of curiosity, to see what's on right now), I saw a few posts about climax. essentially three kinds of posts: "omg wtf I have no idea what's gonna happen next!", "it's a pity viewership is so low, it's so good", and [spoilery detail I'll talk about below]. clearly I was the target audience for this.
and I've been really enjoying it so far! I'm on episode 6, very curious to see how the script will continue to unravel from here, and liking a lot of things about it. before I get to the spoiler-y comments, can I just say the photography is great? unsurprisingly, because I usually like korean tv/film photography.

also? this kdrama is tagged as "noir"?! definitely looking up more things with that tag later.
spoiler-y comments ahead! don't read if you'd like to go into it without knowing the story beats.

YEAH...
at first I was a bit miffed that the stylish, rather eccentric woman was the villain but you know what? I'm having a blast with her, she's deranged and will obviously crash and burn but the actress is incredible in that role. nana's acting is great too, also unsurprisingly.
the celebrity prostitution (actual sex trafficking most of the time) plot was what hooked me in, because wow? then we got to the prosecution corruption plot and I was like woah? then we got to the "famous actress is actually a lesbian who was in love with her fellow famous actress friend" plot and I was like WOAHHHH??? I wasn't even into the main couple at first tbh because it felt like this was gonna drag like every other failed straight marriage plot, but ACTUALLY?!?!?! HE'S HER BEARD?? not officially I don't think, but woah... sometimes the best marriages are between the closeted lesbian actress and her ride-or-die aroace prosecutor husband.
(I'm calling her a lesbian but that's not textual, maybe she's bi, maybe we're gearing up for a romance between these two, maybe she'll get with nana's character and they'll be the weirdest throuple-who's-not-actually-a-throuple, who knows! I hope they can scoot over so nana's character can join them.)
so far, halfway through episode 6, I'm really, really enjoying their marriage? partnershiip? whatever the hell they have going on. I can kind of see why this isn't doing great with ratings, no one is a hero in it; if anything, everyone is a bit of an antihero. the "good guys" are doing fucked up things! I cheered when it was implied jeongwon killed jaesang LOL even though I didn't think jaesang deserved it, you know what I mean? people are just lethal in this. that's cool. the stakes are super high.
as soon as my headache is gone for good, I'm continuing episode 6!!!
