mic check 1 2 3

is this thing on? hello?

november sent me into a bit of a downward spiral, the brain hasn't been braining right, yadda yadda, nothing new under the sun lol that's what I get for trying to handle mental illness with The Power of Loveā„¢ instead of medication proper.

now that I'm on a break and all the stress-inducing stuff is more or less out of the way for a couple weeks, I can think a little bit better. I somehow managed to only miss one deadline/date (my gywo check-in... rip), and even got some reading in between?! incredible.

as a deobi I'm ecstatic because I got the best possible news (MY OT11!!!!!!!!!!) and trigger promotions were fun!! at the same time, though, I've been feeling like I'm losing touch with reality because the state of the fandom for the past couple weeks has been... mindboggling? did we all live through the same last 3 years, do we all remember we wanted tbz out of fuckass IST? did I dream that up? is IST employing psyop tactics just to fuck around or is half of the fandom straight up... not catching on that a lot of the people making a fuss are akgaes who got mad bermuda line didn't go solo? hello? can anyone hear me? [knocks on padded walls]

to forget I'm living through a simulation, I have some guesses as to what tbz might be doing in 2025! not actual predictions or wishes, just what I'd expect to happen now that the evil has been defeated they have different contracts with a different company, especially considering what they've been hinting at.

1. solo works

both eric and juyeon have explicitly said recently that they want to release a solo, which makes me think next year we're gonna get some solo debuts (or at least one?). I'm always more of a group fan than I am a solo fan, I don't really crave solo promotions, but I'm actually looking forward to it because I think tbz can make it work perfectly for them... that period between comebacks when most of tbz gets little to no schedules while some members have mc/modeling gigs? I can very clearly see them fitting some solo promotions in between.

besides, solo promotions can give acting line some time to accept projects, I think? I can't tell if that would include leading roles if younghoon says that would keep him away for like, 5 months at a time (?!) - but hey, musicals, movies(?), shorter roles, those should be doable. if sangyeon managed to practice for a whole musical through all that [gestures vaguely towards trigger era/7th anniversary stress], some solo promotions surely would only help acting line with their schedules too, right?

2. better line distribution

a given, but still: no one will ever convince me the producers at IST didn't have a grudge against haknyeon lol the number of times he mentioned his voice didn't suit a certain type of song (always about a different type of song)... he was being TOLD that. haknyeon, point those people to me, I'll slash their tires for you. same goes for kevin, whose lines seem to have misteriously dwindled ever since he was shoved out of visual line... huh! so strange.

those two cases aside, in my opinion the line distribution issue with most tbz title tracks from 2020 onwards stemmed partially from the song choice. super short songs with lots of rapping/random english soundbites will invariably favor rapper and dance lines. there's nowhere to run if the song itself doesn't give vocals much to work with, or doesn't have enough lines in general for 11 people. (I could write a whole post dissecting trigger as a song and mv. fascinating how I can like a release and still have so many #opinions about it.)

so I'm not expecting new songs to be The Most Fair and Just Songs Ever; if they keep doing that flavor of their discography (the phantasy pt.2 flavor), especially with songs under or right around 3 minutes, that's gonna happen again. just hopefully less obviously skewed now that the people in the recording studio aren't set against kevhak? it's not like they're getting much center time to justify not having lines to begin with. which brings me to...

3. better choreographies

don't get me wrong, their choreos are and have always been cool ensemble-wise, the step work for trigger was awesome!!! the full picture is always fun to watch, and I LOVE tbz as performers. but I'm so strongly hoping that mihawk isn't following them to the new company. please, god!!! no more "performance director" with a boner for three members and utter contempt for the other eight. in that sense, trigger choreo was ridiculous. their worst choreo in terms of who gets to be at the front or not - and they've got some strong contenders for that.

maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, but I'm not expecting 100 to be so pushy (and blatant) as IST was - bermuda will get all their solo gigs as usual, sure, but I'm carefully optmistic that at least for group choreographies, it won't be all about jusunkyu(mil, if mihawk was feeling generous).

not to look like the conspiracy board meme gif but bermuda is not centralized...

4. member-produced songs in albums

I'm not overly attached to the idea of members producing their own albums but in tbz's case, they clearly want to contribute... it's obvious sunwoo and sangyeon are interested in producing since they've produced for other artists (sangyeon has a producer's name and everything?! sangyeon??) and eric has been begging IST to include one of his songs in their albums for a while now. even chanhee championed for him! we also know jacob and kevin can (and often) compose songs themselves. and again, maybe it's wishful thinking on my part, dreaming costs nothing!!! but I have a feeling a sangyeon-produced title track would be a dream in terms of line distribution and boyz appreciation... are we all listening to "winter sleep"? that might be my favorite track in the single. HE LET ERIC SING!!!!! T___T remember when he got sunhakric together for a track too? In Sangyeon We Trust.

5. ? tour?

I can't tell if zen III is happening in 2025 or not. on the one hand, the members seem keen to tour next year (eric sounded sure they ARE going on tour but I wouldn't be surprised if he was just going full #TBZ_WILL_THRIVE amid all the stress lol ily eric it's okay); on the other, realistically and logistically, I imagine their first order of business under 100 will be a comeback (coming probably soon), then those solo things if they're happening, then...? no idea.

but I am POSITIVE, I am SURE, I am gonna go threaten some ceos if it doesn't happen, that their first tour with 100 will include canada. IT'S HAPPENING!!! MOONBAE ARE PERFORMING IN CANADA!!! I can feel it in my deobi bones.

and on a smaller scale, I'm hoping that pride flags can make a comeback on stage... not even expecting that the members will hold them, but just that if there IS a flag, they have the option to take it? lol it's been years and that still baffles me. what kind of bullshit rules did IST have inside if they would waste their time instituting THAT kind of small, inconsequential rule for performances? because I don't think holding up a pride flag on stage is this monumental gesture that's bound to affect the stakeholders so directly that the company had to have a policy about that. so like???

FREE MY MAN!!!

I'm very optimistic and excited for this new chapter, and curious to see how things will work overall now. (hopefully they're happy with the contracts they signed!) the silliest thing I'm curious about, though, might be this: will the fanservice continue as it is?

because after trigger I think we can all agree IST used jumil very intentionally LOL and when it suited their needs. so I'm curious to see if that's gonna continue under the new company or if jumil themselves are just gonna default back to it without the company specifically asking them to. they're nothing if not enablers!!

and it's not only about the RPF angle (although yes that's part of it), I'm just curious to see how that's gonna work moving forward. I'd wager that jumil is not gonna disappear as a fanservice ship because too many fans are into it, but like, was trigger the last official mv with a Sexually Charged Jumil Scene? or is that still gonna happen? IST seemed to be #investing in different ships in 2024 too (milbbang, juric, a smidge of milcob). I wonder if 100 was taking notes lol or if they might try to mix things up a little bit, if they're taking the fanservice route at all...

(imagine if the next mv has a moonbae near-kiss scene. SUNNYU. sanghak using all of their acting chops to look wistfully into each other's eyes. jumil again but this time younghoon is officially their third.)
