“Five bucks Younghoon will make them lose on purpose.”
Sangyeon takes a long sip of his lemonade, watching the game of chicken fight from behind his sunglasses and from the comfort of the chaise lounge. On the chair next to his, Haknyeon readies his phone.
Barely two minutes later, there’s a loud shriek when Sunwoo falls from Younghoon’s shoulders and into the water after the latter loses concentration, laughing too hard to bother dodging the attacks from the enemy team. Kevin cries out in victory as Juyeon submerges to let him off his shoulders.
Haknyeon sighs and taps his screen a couple of times. The notification pops up right away on Sangyeon’s phone. He is now five bucks richer.
“Maybe it wasn’t even on purpose,” Haknyeon argues, bitterly. He hates losing, Sangyeon knows, especially if it involves money.
“You’re the one who suggested this game,” Sangyeon reminds him.
“I didn’t know you were a Younghoon expert.”
The afternoon is quiet for a moment, as the game ends and Sunwoo pulls himself up at the edge of the pool, Younghoon following right behind him.
“Bet ten bucks Sunwoo will put sunscreen on him,” Haknyeon says.
“Fifteen that it’s Younghoon who’s gonna ask him to.”
This one takes a while. They’re far enough away that Sangyeon can’t hear what they’re talking about, but there’s some pointing to the bar on Sunwoo’s part before Younghoon reaches down to his bag and pulls out the sunscreen. He hands it to Sunwoo; the body language says enough, but it’s the look on Sunwoo’s face that tells them who won.
Sangyeon is still laughing when the notification comes. He takes a happy sip of his lemonade.
“Bet thirty bucks I can make you come in five minutes.”
The lemonade goes down the wrong way and up Sangyeon’s nose at the same time. He chokes and coughs, wiping at his chin and taking his sunglasses off to glare at him.
Haknyeon is smirking. “Wanna bet?”
Sangyeon tries to laugh and dismiss the idea at the same time but he’s so flustered it comes out in the form of an ugly snort. Not his best moment, he’ll admit.
“You don’t—You’re not serious.”
“Oh, but I am. Those two can’t be the only ones having fun today,” Haknyeon says, gesturing vaguely in the direction of Younghoon and Sunwoo before he stands up. “Or whatever it is they’re doing.”
Instead of waiting for an answer, he just walks away in the direction of the bathroom. Sangyeon watches him for a second too long, before his curiosity wins out and he stands up, too.
He has a feeling he’s about to lose thirty bucks, but he’s not all that worried about it.
