blog: watching queendom 2 (s02e03~s02e06)
this took a while because every time I finished an episode I just thought "ok, just one more" and next thing I knew I had watched 4 episodes. BUT ANYWAY. girls!
I'm just gonna start this off with the performances because this post is about to get long and I took several screenshots, so:
wjsn - navillera
they did so well with the live singing, considering how high gfriend's songs are!! I'm impressed, navillera seems like it's a hard song to sing, and they made such good use of the stage. the outfits were pretty too! good, seola really is gorgeous, and yeonjung is an AMAZING singer. I wasn't familiar with her prior to this but now I'm "YES, YEONJUNG, YOU ARE TOTALLY CORRECT" about anything and everything she says. she's really a sweetheart.
taeyeon is me:
I'm guessing yeoreum is in the same spot as yuqi, in the sense that the main dancers left the group and she's now officially filling their shoes? the pressure she must've been in...
and btw,

loona - shake it
THIS WAS SO MUCH FUNNN!! this feels very queendom/rtk/kingdom - there's a storyline, there's props, there's onstage transformations and magic tricks, etc. what do the kids say again? they did their homework! I'm still in love with jinsoul, apparently, and love how charismatic olivia hye and chuu are on stage. heejin is amazing too! and I'm choosing to believe that the takeaway here is butch lesbians helping cishet girls love themselves, no other interpreation needed, thanks.
hyolyn - so what
hands down my favorite YET AGAIN. congrats to hyolyn for being An Artist because omg? I didn't even know she had opened her own company but it makes perfect sense now, especially after watching these stages because yeah, she knows what she's doing and why she's doing it. absolutely in love with whatever's going on in her head artistry-wise.
something I hard forgotten about queendom s02? THE GROUPS IN THE AUDIENCE. I forgot we got tbz and idle sitting close together LOL and oneus farther in the back. I just know keonhee and changmin had the time of their lives that day.

KEVIN AND KEONHEE WERE VIBING SO HARD WITH HYOLYN they get it!!!
also love how my beloveds had very normal reactions until yuqi came in like IT WAS CRAZY YALL!!! never change, yuqi.
but enough about the cool people in the audience! now about the cool people in the show: even with mnet trying to paint loona as the underdogs this season I still think they were doing pretty well? the first round fiasco was mnet's fault to begin with, makes no sense how they kept trying to sell loona as the bottom group. I understand loona themselves might've felt like they were running against the clock...
still, though. they're doing great as far as I know and I don't even know them!! I'm learning names as I go and I still think they're doing well. mnet, girl, calm down.
nothing to say about the voting other than I really, REALLY wish everyone had this mindset at all times:
it's so much funnier when the groups ignore the competition and just vibe or praise each other, mamamoo had the right idea during the first season. sorry for being a baby and not liking survivals but honestly! wjsn was right here!!!
this is what I'm here for at all times:
FINALLY, THE WORKSHOP EPISODE :') this might be my favorite part because it's when we really get inter-group interactions. hyolyn continues to be hilarious in her #calm ways, the kep1er girls and the loona girls bonding right away was the sweetest thing, and LOL at viviz looking like the biggest introverts ever (I say this lovingly - tag yourselves, I'm viviz). the first few moments when they were all choosing partners and units made me really like brave girls' eunji too? I didn't remember she stood in for bom during s01 but now I'm rooting for her.
I mean, how can you NOT love these unit episodes?
the sheer potential for new friendships in these things... I'm here for everyone voting every lesbian's #1 idol seola as the prettiest queen, and for everyone falling for dayoung. heejin, I hope you got her number!!!
...and then they lived happily ever after.
I'll be honest, the units and their song choices were a bit of a surprise? I wasn't expecting hyolyn and minyoung to go for a slow ballad, and I was reticent with soobin, eunha, and yeonjung together not because I thought they would be a bad combo, but because I was sure THEY would go for a slow ballad lol I was clearly very wrong and GOOD THING I WAS!!! turns out the vocal units were really solid choices, both of members and of songs. I couldn't have loved their stages more.
우주를 품은 은하 (wjsn soobin, yeonjung + viviz eunha) - hold my hand
such a BEAUTIFUL stage in every way T^T I really am in love with yeonjung's voice, but soobin and eunha weren't far behind in how hard I fell for them with this performance. this was probably the smartest song choice in the history of this show LOL it fit all of them super well and was just fun to watch too.
AND THEIR MEMBERS WERE SO PROUD OF THEM!!! I melted.

33 (hyolyn + brave girls' minyoung) - to my youth
sorry, I'm repeating myself at this point, but HYOLYN??? this was my favorite of the vocal unit stages, even though I was sure that title would go to "hold my hand". but, I mean...?! the song hit hard, I love how they both could relate to it personally which made it a much more meaningful stage, and I just really enjoyed the performance as a whole. I finished it speechless and a bit touched, not gonna lie.
my favorite thing, though? how supportive hyolyn was of minyoung throughout the entire process. editing and narratives aside, minyoung looked like she needed to hear all that - she needed to hear that she was great and that she could do it, that she should be proud of herself!! she's an incredible singer, and I'm glad hyolyn told her that. do I wish I had hyolyn's self-confidence? yes, but then again, I'm not hyolyn, so. minyoung should be proud, though!!! she IS amazing, and seeing them work together and just have that kind of connection was so nice.
(kinda heartbreaking to see how much covid affected minyoung, though... I hope she's better these days? because having your throat/voice condition affected when you're a singer - and a main vocal at that! - must be the worst.)

I might tackle ep07 soon because I wanna see how the dance stage went. until then, though, so much to think about. so many new girls to look up!!! I haven't been talking much about kep1er but dayeon is my new adopted daughter and I was blown away by chaehyun's(?) singing. I hope the loona girls are still in touch with them and they go out to scream about butterflies sometimes. #FRIENDSHIP
