handy meme originally from here and shared on paradisediner! I wasn't even gonna write one of these this year because 2022 was... certainly a year, but eh, why not? and I did one of these last year too, so it should be fun to have both up.
2022: Fic Year in Review
The Stats:
☆ Total Word Count: 107,452 but I'm pretty sure that's inflated because of 2021 drafts I only posted this year...

✿ Overall Thoughts ✿
🖨 Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? If you predicted anything.
less :( I had plans that fell through this year, and my fandom activity in general was minimal after my mental health plummeted lol sort of a miracle I managed to post fic at all after march.
🖨 What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted at the start of the year? Did you get into a new pairing/genre/fandom?
definitely (g)i-dle! I had no plans to write idle fic when the year started, it just happened. the juric was a surprise too but I kinda always wanted to post juric anyway, so... it was just very out of the blue and very unplanned.
🖨 What’s your own favourite story of the year?
it's between the footballer au and the juric fic. since I was self-prompting the footballer au, I just chose self-indulgence and added a lot of things I liked/had been wanting to do for a while. and the juric was both my way to cope with eric's hiatus and an idea I had been wanting to do... the original idea was to write a juyeon-centric fic about his found family-isms within tbz, and I meant for it to be juric even if just on the surface. so it was not only a way to channel all my eric feelings during his hiatus but a fun exercise too, transporting everything to the 1990s! to my birth year, even lol I had fun with that one.
🖨 Do you have a story from previous years you now feel is underappreciated? Better than you remembered it to be?
not underappreciated exactly but I was rereading the bbanghak never let me go au a few weeks ago and I really liked it? I had a memory of it being sorta weak and weird but I liked it much more now that I reread it. I mean, it's still weird, but!! good weird. fun weird!
🖨 Did you take any writing risks this year?
not really, I guess...? joining 97z fest and hakfest knowing I was not in a good mood was a choice but it worked, and I couldn't pass those two fests up.
🖨 Biggest source of inspiration this year?
I know for a fact that reading good fic from other authors reminded me why I like fic so much this year. I can be in the worst of moods and wishing death upon my enemies, but if an author I like posts a nice fic, I'm the happiest ever for a good few hours lol and in terms of media, I gotta say yellowjackets (the tv show) and tomboy (the mv) did wonders for me this year.
🖨 Is there a character you've really enjoyed writing this year?
not in particular? I did enjoy writing yuqi pov, even if it was mostly just vibes lol and I had a blast writing different younghoons this year, from heartthrob uni student to famous actor to just a dude at a wedding. that was fun.
🍃 Do you have any general writing goals for the new year?
honestly, just go wild with it. write everything and anything that comes to mind and stick to it until the end. I'd love to write more and post more!

❄ My best story (or scene!) of this year:
I left this question for last and I still don't know how to answer it... maybe the best story was the headcanons we made along the way.
❄ My most popular story of this year:
how do we measure that? LOL by hits it was the footballer au (1400 hits), by kudos it's trial run (jumil, with 176 kudos). I'm gonna consider the footballer au for this because the feedback I got for it was really sweet.
❄ Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
NONE!! I'm very lucky that people are super kind to me. if I were to pick one I'd say the (g)i-dle fic had less feedback than the others but then again, I think the fandom just isn't super active on ao3? so I was expecting that when I posted it. and I'm very grateful for its 41 kudos!!!
❄ Longest story of the year:
again, footballer au fic :') with 28k words. that's my second longest fic ever?!
❄ Shortest story of the year:
electrum (moonbae) with 2300 words.
❄ Most fun story to write:
like I said, I loved writing the footballer au, BUT I'm gonna say candy sugar (bbanghak) for this one just because writing haknyeon crushing on pretty boy younghoon was hilarious. absolutely no thoughts, really just bbanghak being idiots.
❄ Story that needed the most research:
I had to look up a lot of stuff for the footballer au... I spent so much time figuring out team formations and FA/world cup calendars, for instance. but I was on google a lot for the juric fic too, especially to check if I wasn't messing up the timeline of 1990s technology :')
🔥 Story with the single sexiest moment:
I've written pwps this year but my favorite smut was the sex scene in the juric fic. when I was doubting I'd ever post that fic I thought that I could at least use that scene because I really liked how it turned out lol
🍩 Story with the single cutest/sweetest moment:
moonbae with puppies makes ME emotional, and I'm the one wrote it... so I'm gonna go with even if the world doesn't know (I do) aka canon compliant moonbae fic.
😶 Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story:
my fics were all very safe this year lol nothing too out of the ordinary. I will say though, horny bbangmilkev going at it at the company? very bold (and irresponsible) of them. so I'm saying formfitting for this.
❄ Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
I wouldn't say the fic itself shifted my perception, but I deliberately tried to put a spin on how I usually write milbbang with as luck would have it. instead of aloof younghoon and romantiqué hyunjae, I made younghoon the romantic, heartbroken guy who's after The One, and hyunjae the happy-go-lucky guy who's been playing the field. it was good to shake things up, in a way? because otherwise I'd keep writing them with the same vague motifs forever lol
❄ Hardest story to write:
I'd say that milbbang ^ took a while, but I'll go with the juric fic for this answer for obvious reasons. writing eric leaving and coming back when we didn't know yet if he would be back in real life was complicated.
❄ Biggest disappointment:
I'm not disappointed by any of my fics, I'm more disappointed by the fics I *didn't* write. but I'll say I had (maybe still have) my gripes with dreamland highway (sanghak), especially because if things had been different I would've liked to make it a little longer/add in more scenes.
❄ Biggest surprise:
(g)i-dle fic! came out of absolutely nowhere, thanks to the tomboy mv.
❄ Most unintentionally telling story:
lol juric fic. CAN YOU TELL I MISSED ERIC?
✿ Favourite Opening Lines: ✿
none that stands out in particular, though I do like:
"You got a light?" (from the yuqi/minnie fic)
and
"Jaehyun likes his job." (from the jumil fic).
both tie in pretty well with the overarching theme of the story/the ending, and I like simple one-line starts.
✿ Favourite Closing Lines: ✿
"It’s not like Jaehyun is scared of storms anymore." (from the footballer au; really love this one)
"“Flirting, yeah,” he says, and pulls Younghoon in for a kiss so perfect that it might as well have been written in the stars." (from 97z fest milbbang; that entire final scene was just me figuring out how far I could push it with the fate references lol)
✿ Favourite lines from anywhere: ✿
I'm a dialogue gal so the lines that stay with me are usually dialogue (or dialogue-adjacent) ones. like,
"Yeah, hyung, you blow." and "Sunwoo wanted to fight, you gave him that. Jaehyun wanted to be a hero, you treated him like one. I needed a way out of my own head, you took my hand and led me out." from the juric fic;
or, "I wouldn't fuck anyone with a tail, you know that, we've had this converstion" and "The guy is practically a walking romcom in chinos" from the sanghak fic.
✿ Looking back at 2022: ✿
would very much like to pretend this year never happened. it got a bit better after october (still can't believe elections here had a good result when we were all preparing for the worst case scenario!), but honestly, good riddance. let's just skip to 2023 already and never mention 2022 again lol
✿ Fic-writing goals for 2023: ✿
write more! post more, if possible! let the brainworms take over and not second-guess myself too much. I'd like to hit 100k words too like the past few years but if it doesn't happen, that's okay. the important thing is just having fun because writing is one of my favorite things to do, and doing it within fandom gives me joy. and by god, we need joy lol
I'm not gonna try to create goals for myself (e.g. make a collection, join events, write a certain pairing) because for now I just want to focus on getting all the ideas I've had rotating in my brain for months out. either by writing them, or wiping the slate clean, whatever works best. so really, just writing more would be lovely already.
