A/N: drabble september 2021
drabble september was an event hosted by @write_or_write on twitter where they had a different word for every day of the month and encouraged writers to come up with a drabble for it. I ended up "joining" (aka posting on my own but never really interacting with the main event lol) and writing for more days than I was planning to, which was a lot of fun!
everything is in this thread but I'll go over each of them briefly under the cut.
some stats first: I wrote 14 drabbles/fics across 14 pairings (the multishipping is getting out of hand and I blame the divorcees for it...), 12 of those being tbz pairings. the total wordcount was 7,000+ words because I only managed to write under 200 words twice. but hey, I did it!!
the words I used were: magic, crime, vampire, comfort, werewolf, swimming, superhero, witch, gaming, royalty, wedding, proposal, kiss, and nightmares.
I didn't actually set out to write as many drabbles as I did. I thought I'd join in whenever I felt like it, just for funsies, but that ended up being 14 times - and I only bailed at the end because the fest obligations started [sunwoo voice] breathing down my neck. I actually really wanted to write for "road trip" and "cyborg" (these lyrics, man...) but alas. still, though!! these drabbles helped distract me in what turned out to be a horrible month. just the fact that I could write /something/ outside of my fest fics is practically a miracle considering my terrible mood :') so thank you, write_or_write!
I had been planning to practice writing drabbles for a while before this opportunity came around. mainly because I used to be the kind of writer who only ever wrote things under 2k words and now I'm averaging anywhere between 10k and 20k LOL so I wanted to challenge myself to actually write short things again. and it worked!! well, technically. was any of it good? I'm only really happy with like, two or three of them but!! the important thing is!! it was a fun challenge :D and so very welcome too.

day 2 - "magic" | sangric
the longest """drabble"" (guys this is not a drabble) and probably the most insane of them all? I really do think sangric is a ship with so much potential for like, fluff/comedy stuff. imo these two together are the perfect combination for the disgruntled coworkers to lovers trope. the "you get on my nerves but you're so cute I can't hate you" trope. THE "I TOLERATE YOU" TO LOVERS TROPE!!
eric's hair color being magically attuned to his mood was just my love letter to his unicorn hair in thrill ride BUT ALSO it might have been an unintentional reference to fruti2flutie's eric in off-road? I don't know, something about magical!eric having magical hair just feels right.
also I was most definitely inspired by "the good fight" because I spent august watching that show. OBJECTION, YOUR HONOR!!!

day 3 - "crime" | milbbang
not much to say aside from oh, I love "thelma & louise" and I love milbbang. I was determined to write something SHORT (!) with this so every single line had to convey as much relevant information as possible. it truly felt like a challenge lol but I had the most fun doing it, honestly. the angst was so deliciously painful!!!
fun fact: I'm pretty sure I mixed up two movies writing this? the "thelma & louise" inspiration is pretty obvious with the whole shooting someone + running away together with a loaded gun thing, but I think I was picturing a scene from "boys on the side" (1995) when I came up with the idea?? in any case, this was supposed to hurt. and hurt it did. I'm sorry, younghoonie...

day 4 - "vampire" | bbangsunhak

purpletulips) that I would write bbangsunhak inspired by the drink it mv and as with most jokes the idea wouldn't LEAVE ME!!! it still won't. I never quite figured out what I wanted to do with it, or what the plot would be aside from this one scene and the concept of sunhak vampires + human younghoon, which is a good thing! that would be way too self-indulgent even for my standards. so a drabble should suffice... at least for now?
jokes aside, though, this was when I managed to write something around 100 words!! I'm considering the challenge a success even if it's thanks to the funniest ot3 ever. I'M SORRY...

hurt/comfort is so special to me, of any kind... that near-death angst is particularly good because god, that hurts T_T this was supposed to be set in a high fantasy world - no specifics aside from SWORDS. but neither of them are fighters/warriors, and that makes me kinda really love this concept? a gemini and a taurus walk into a tavern...

day 7 - "werewolf" | eric & juyeon
juyeon's transformation was kiiinda inspired by this one episode of "hemlock grove" I watched around 7 years ago? less gory, but still painful and sort of creepy. (please don't google it if you can't handle gore, it's really graphic!) and once the idea had come to me I just couldn't not write it. this could make for a really sweet and funny fic because later after I had posted it I kept thinking like, what if this was canon compliant? what if he's just. a werewolf idol. that could be fun! what are the mechanics? the rules? so much to think about.

day 10 - "swimming" | sanghak
THE FACT THAT NO ONE SWIMS IN THIS!!! but I just had the thrill ride pool in mind when I had this idea and thought cool! close enough! we can work with that! I was in a sanghak mood when I wrote this, so much so that I ended up writing a proper oneshot (2k words) for them around the same time. just the idea of them making fun of bbangsun being oblivious idiots was so funny to me... and of course I had to add the classic haknyeon-breaks-sangyeon-with-one-sentence dynamic that I adore with my whole heart.

day 11 - "superhero" | milkev
up there with the sangric for the most insane entry... but look, I just think the milkev rivalry™ would be so funny in this context. kevin always going like HE'S PLANNING SOMETHING! I JUST KNOW HE IS! while hyunjae's plans are basically: working up the courage to ask kevin out. peak idiots to lovers energy.
the superhero names were inspired by their danger stage codenames again, because I love those, except for hyunjae because I think "now" works better for a superhero than "dark seven"? and the only real power I pictured writing this was kevin's, he 100% has elastigirl's elasticity superpower and that's why he mentions he pulled a spider-man 2. don't know why!! I just like that power!!
and hyunjae's mask is a caramel/brown color because I asked jenny which what color she associates with hyunjae and she remembered the bear nickname 🧸 so caramel it is! I didn't want to give him a yellow mask - which is the color *I* associate with him - because that felt really... basic? and he deserves more!!

WITCH!YUQI YOU'RE SO DEAR TO ME... I never got around to writing gidle aside from the single oneshot lost somewhere in my google drive, so this was fun! sort of fairytale-esque in a way? because I imagined yuqi finding a dying soyeon somewhere in the woods, bringing her back home, healing her back to health and earning her trust... before revealing herself to be something else. that was the whole idea, and honestly? I kinda love the idea of witch!yuqi. "oh my god" era is long gone but witchy!gidle is forever, guys...
oh and this had a similar wordcount to the bbangsunhak!! so yay drabbles that are actually 100-something words! 💖

this was an oldass prompt I told myself I'd write and then never did... college roommates seodo who like to play together but always end up arguing after the game and all the arguing always leads to. well. things. because what's more stereotypical seodo than angry/hate sex? nothing. AND WHAT'S WORSE THAN PEOPLE PLAYING DMG WHEN THEY SHOULD PLAY TANK? NOTHING!!! just kidding that doesn't bother me as much anymore. but I like to think leedo Hates It, bless his heart.

oh, royalty aus... I never knew I loved those so much until I wrote two of them!!! and now I feel like I'm obsessed. this is one of the concepts/ideas I like the most, I think, out of the whole thread. I knew I wanted to have juyeon be the prince this time (I already have two fics where he's the commoner), so it was just a matter of figuring out who I wanted chanhee to be but it didn't take me long to think oh... he's his new personal tailor. chanhee, talented as hell and maker of the finest garments the royal family has ever seen, but too smart to fall for the romantic notion that they could ever be of same standing... until!!! the ball happens!!! and what happens next? who knows!!!
no but really, this one I feel could go any number of ways. if I wanted to write a full fic for this, it could be anything from fluffy romance to angsty political drama. just... so much potential.

DID YOU KNOW I love "imagine me & you" (2005)!!! I'm not the biggest fan of cheating in fics (or cheating in general), so I imagined their dynamic here would be a little different from the one in the movie, but still: the idea of florist!sangyeon and recently married but terribly confused!jacob just seemed too good to pass up. finding true love only after you've given up looking for it... finding it with the most unlikely person ever!! the florist at your wedding!!! excellent.
the more I think about sangcob, the more I like it? I wasn't super on board before but I think there's something there, we just need to dig deeper than their 2018 fics used to...

day 19 - "proposal" | sunric
a sunric fic? in my me? it's more likely than you think!
genuinely, though, I don't know where this came from. I saw the theme for the next day was proposal and immediately thought "cool. sunric proposing at the worst possible time. I'll see where that takes me." and this happened! at first I thought sunwoo would be the one proposing because my initial idea was much more dramatic and mission impossible-inspired but the stealer au gave me more room to improvise. and eric!! it gave him more room to shine 🥳 I like this version way better.
I actually had a prompt for a heist au that could technically fit this universe, so maybe? if that ever happens? I could find a way to work this pairing in? because this was fun to write!

day 20 - "kiss" | (bbang)nyukyu
MY BBANGNYUKYU... I imagined this to be canon compliant but honestly, it could go either way. the important thing here is that nyukyu! and bbangnyukyu!!! the romanticism of not having to say anything for someone you love to remind you that you're not alone... the quiet reassurance that you're loved and cared for... staples of the bbangnyukyu dynamic imo.
and I liked the idea of the kiss in question being a kiss on the cheek. I could've gone all out with like, kissing in the rain! or maybe a kissing booth prompt like I discussed with jenny! but I wanted to go for the kiss on the cheek. and I'm glad I did because this one hits particularly hard. I just love this ot3 so much...

another one that was originally a fic idea. this one is more recent, though - I've just been thinking about sunmoon roommates these days, so I wanted to write something short about them sharing a bed, and how these two in particular would benefit from being that close to someone... I don't know, I just like sunmoon in general. I'm glad I could use the idea for a drabble! I'm not sure if I'm gonna go through with it and write the oneshot I had in mind originally but if I don't, at least there's this version.
fun fact: I abandoned a bbangsun wip a while ago where sunwoo helped younghoon with his insomnia so it's kinda funny that my brain is still somewhat stuck there??? get over it, @ me??

final thoughts: this was a really fun exercise and a chance to play around with some new concepts and pairings. I still wish I could've gone through with it until the end, and I know most of these are... a Choice, but that's the fun part!! just throwing things around and seeing what sticks.
I'm not sure how many people are gonna read this post but in case someone does: anything from these drabbles is up for grabs. I'd be SO HAPPY if someone wrote a full fic for the nyucob or the junyu, because I feel like those two are the most promising ones in terms of universe/plot. and I'm not THE best person out there to write royal/fantasy aus, so!!
and now that I know I can still write short things, I can go back to my longass fics with a clear conscience 🤗🧡 fdkjndkjfdhfb
